We achieved CQC status of “Home of Excellence” in 2004 ,& since then the goal of our family run homes has been to keep improving so as to maintain the status of excellence.

We are the only Home to be awarded Outstanding in Well-Led by CQC November 2018 in this area.

We are very pleased to have been recognised for our success which is a direct result of our committed workforce. The Awards were selected from entries from across Adults, Health & Community Well-being directorate and the Private, Independent and Voluntary organisations within the adult sector across Essex.

We are very proud of our home and never more so in December 2019, when we received the following Awards :

Infection Prevention and Control Award

Unsung Hero Award

The Infection Prevention and Control Award recognised our measures taken to reduce the risk of infection, and in the light of COVID-19 pandemic, we were well placed to deal with this threat.
Corner House continues to assess the risk and take steps to prevent, detect and control the spread of infections. COVID-19 has presented a daily changing playing field and we were guided by the information, recommendations received from the Department of Health and other Authorities.

We have continually adapted and endeavoured to be forward thinking with our infection control measures, including installing a Sanitising equipment. This also has the added benefit of an infrared body temperature machine. We have taken infection control to the next level and alongside more traditional measures of regular handwashing, Daily Temperature recording of our Residents.
All our staff have PPE, and newly made Scrubs.
What we are currently doing:

Restricting all but essential visitors to our homes, such as doctors

Arranging Garden Visits

Taking the temperatures of staff before they start work

Taking our Residents temperatures, oxygen saturation and blood pressure twice a day

Anyone who has been to hospital will remain in their room for 14 days.

Our Unsung Hero Ray has been exceptional and made a huge impact on our Residents lives. He set up the Gentleman’s Club recognising that our men folk wanted to enjoy time together, relaxing, chatting, watching films or playing cards. We are very proud of all his achievements.

We continue to build on this success in the future, our ethos remains that we continually improve and evolve, ensuring our home is welcoming, safe with a relaxed happy atmosphere.

November 2017 Awards

Corner House are proud to announce that we have been
awarded three awards.

Great British Care Awards - Best Innovator Award.
Prosper Award within Essex County Council - Highly Commended Team of the Year.
Also as part of the Prospers, we are pleased to announce also that our Resident Audrey Bush was nominated for the Unsung Hero award and came out as the winner, this is a great boost for the home also.

Care Team of The Year

We won the Team of the Year award from Essex CC & were runners up in the Great Brit awards for Team of the Year in the following year. The key areas judged were:, Making a positive contribution & Improved quality of life.

The recognition was a reflection of our ethos to always look to improve and evolve & that through the creation of a happy atmosphere within our team and strong team spirit.

Innovation Award for “Bringing the Outside World In”

This award was made to recognise fresh ideas which pointed to future ways of delivering services. This category rewards the potential for development and enduring improvement of services, and the use of expertise and experience across the health and social care sector for a greater good.

We were awarded for our activities project to bring in our local Community into The Corner House & Corner Lodge to provide residents more choices in activities, help fulfil emotional needs & provide contact with the outside world.

In collaboration with Age UK & My Home Life, the project has resulted in regular visits from an IT tutor, art classes from local schools, our special event days, a reading group being set up, and in house church services. As part of the project we are taking residents out every 1 to 2 months to places of their interest too.

Manager of The Year

The Corner House proudly won manager of the year for establishing a praiseworthy team spirit, being supportive of change and ever willing to try. The award considered the demonstration of the values and behaviours of her organisation and delivering the highest standards of practice and performance.
